What They Say
What a wonderful subject that someone finally decided to cover.

I attended RPF in Agoura, Devore, Black Point, and Irwindale,California for DECADES...in 1974-2007. I still have my Courts,Middle Class and Middle Eastern costumes that I would wear there. Most of my friends still go. And when Spring comes I think of FAIRE! The smells, music, food and all the awesome people I met there over the years.

Thank YOU, for doing the film.

I did watch the production and I liked it. I like anything Faire related. I thought it was well done in the different sections of the topic. That was broken down in a way for all to understand and relate to. I actually watched it twice. I wish I could have been there to take questions due to my long time in the hobby. If there was anything that I found that could have been added, it would have been a section on the patrons and their acceptance, playing along and interaction -so to see the impact of the crafters, and performers on individuals. Other then that, it was really good.

Excellent and Huzzah! Me and my wife watched the film last night.
It was actually touching, very real, funny and since I have been in the scene as a performer for 10 years and part of faire organization for 5 years Its very personal. I love the fact that Camryn Manheim was in the film too, we watched some of the Special features too I personally love the music video, Reagan is both beautiful and haunting.

Hi there!

My name is Brian and I hail from Sherwood Forest Faire, Texas' newest renaissance festival, which is located near Austin. George and I watched every second of your video and bonus features this evening and found it simply riveting. Above all else it made us realize that we are just blips on a continuum… what we have done has been done before and will be done again (though, of course, we believe we are doing it better… but doesn't everyone?)

Thanks so much for this historical perspective on what seems to be a little-studied industry.

I literally grew up at the Faire. I am and always will be a Rennie, and a member of the FBI (the Faire Brats Incorporated). The clips I saw on your site brought tears to my eyes. I barely remember Agoura, I was only about three when we stopped using that site, but seeing it again brought back such wonderful memories: being free to sleep under a tree or on a hay bale without anyone bothering me or parents freaking out; hearing stories and gossip around the campfire at night when I was supposed to be in bed; my first (accidental) intoxication with what I thought was a glass of orange juice but was really my grandpa's screwdriver; learning to crochet and spin and sew and tatt in public without people thinking I was weird.

I haven't been able to work Faire in almost ten years now, since Southern lost our Devore site it's been too expensive to work there, and the other close Faire always lands in the middle of me working or going to college. It was really like I had lost a home and a family because of those circumstances. Your film clips brought tears to my eyes for all the friends I've loved, and all the people the Faire has lost over the span of time since "Mama" Phyllis and "Papa" Ron Patterson started it all. But most of all they brought tears to my eyes because it finally felt like, after ten years, I had a chance to go home and see my family again. It felt like I was sitting at Mark's feet again listening to a story as he transported us to a different world. It felt like I was in the sunshine, perched on a rickety wooden stool, trading gossip with other Faire women while we spun yarn by hand and occasionally burst into rowdy, bawdy song or flirted with passers-by. It felt like I could open my front door and step into the stalls of Perfumed Dragon or Fellowship Foundry, or go hawking again at one of Griswald's game stalls.

You gave me back, with just your few clips, the home I've been missing for ten years. For that I thank you, and wish your company much success in documenting modern American history that would otherwise go overlooked.

I watched Faire twice this past weekend. I really enjoyed it. This is a world that has definitely fascinated me and I think actually quite a few people would be into it. I am looking forward to taking my kids to one of these...
